U.S. Marine Found Guilty of Killing A Transgender Woman In Philippines

A Marine from the United States was found guilty of strangling a transgender in the Philippines. The court in Olongapo sentenced Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pamberton up to 12 years in prison. The naked body of Jeffrey Laude, otherwise known as Jennifer, was found with her head in a toilet in a hotel room after midnight in October 2014. Witnesses told the police that the two were seen together at a disco club before they checked into a hotel room for the night. Later on that night, he was identified as Laude's companion that night. Pamberton told the police that he had choked her, but later tried to revive her. He stated that he had become angry with Laude when he found out that she had male genitalia. The court ordered him to be temporarily detained at the New Bilibid Prison.

I think that this is important because there are a lot of people in our world who are transgender or somewhere along those lines. I think that what Pamberton was very wrong of him to do so, but I can understand why he would get angry. Laude didn't tell him that she had male genitalia, which was very wrong to do so. I think that this will happen a lot for the years to come because there are people who are against transgender. Some people will kill or harm a transgender person just because they're transgender. It's wrong, but that's what happens. I think that we need to fix this. We have already legalized marriage equality in the nation, but I think that we need to take it a step further.
